B = n/k
U = n/k
C = n/k
A = n/k
L = Lens code/firmware No (Proven): L1004 = 17.5/45, (L1100 below = EC14); L1100 = 14/54;
L1000 = 11/22; L1101 = 40/150; L1003 = S55/200 ETC ***
F = Flash code (Proven): FL-36 = 1003: 1005 = FL-50: 0000 = FL-20? TF22 = 1100
*** NOTE: These codes are not mutually exclusive as the soft/firmware numbers may coincide. For example both the Sigma 55-200 and the ZD 7-14 are identified with L1003.

R = Releases (Shutter actuations) - proven $$$
S = flaShes fired
M = Pixels Mapped Counter: No of pixels mapped by software, NOT the No of times done
U = SSWF Counter (U = ultrasonic) proven
L = n/k
NOTE 1: A reader pointed out that counters are re-set when firmware is upgraded or when camera is returned for service. Thanks Dane. My own recent observations are different. In April 2006 I upgraded an E-1 from version 1.0 to 1.4 and noted with interest that the counters on page 2 where maintained. This particular E-1 (US sourced) was new in 2004 but had been virtually unused showing shutter actuation count of less than 400 before upgrading.

(E-1 & E-500) CS = Camera Serial (Body Number) proven
(E-1 & E-500) MCS = (possible) Motherboard
(E-1) CAMID = (possible) unique CameraID probably manufacturers database numbering
NOTE 2: The board numbers (MCS - above) were dissimilar between the two E-1's I had the opportunity to study. The US sourced body CS is 143008*** its MCS number is 4001310001215102 and its CAMID is 001310001215102 while the UK sourced body CS is 500011*** its MCS numbers is 4001310006724102 and its CAMID is b00130006724102.
As an historian who has studied Olympus camera and lens numbering regimes for many years I'm intrigued by the different serial number start codes. In the past one model has enjoyed the same start code regardless of its predicted continent of sale. This regime might offer Olympus more statistical information about the spead and saturation in differing marketplaces.

D: = List of error codes:
NOTE: Olympus technicians look here to see what error(s) the camera has recorded. Although this page can be cleared it's not recommended - for obvious reasons.
